Digital Organizing - Why It's Hard

Image
Digital Organizing - Diigo 👍👎 I created my Diigo account and the first thing I thought of was, "ohhh this is work". I would say I'm a very organized person almost OCD about where everything needs to do in my house. If it doesn't have a home, I don't want it. And as Marie Kondo puts it, "does it spark joy?".  I can see how Diigo could be very beneficial for organizing lots of digital information in order to use it effectively and set yourself up for success. You need to stay on top of a system in how you are going to categorize the items you put in Diigo. I have found organizing tangible things to be my favorite thing! If you want me to come over and Marie Kondo your room, I'm your person. When it comes to organizing the intangible such as files and photos... Oh, I am terrible. I think it's because I get lazy about it and can't stick to a system.  An example that comes to mind are photos taken for work. Each year I put together a digital sli...

Reflection - Week 3 - 5/29/2022

Reflection - Week 2: This week I feel like I hit the ground running! As I was looking back on my participation log. I felt like I accomplished quite a bit. Once Friday hit things went a little downhill. I've been working on updating the backyard and this weekend was the perfect long weekend to get things checked off the list. While I failed at completing the Instagram photo challenge. I did get to use social media to help me with a special backyard project.   For the past few days, we have had a chicken come roam into our front yard. My daughter and I have been feeding it bird food because my daughter loves all animals. This got me thinking, that maybe it's finally time to get chickens of our own. I started with Pinterest checking on different chicken coop ideas. I texted a few friends for advice. I even watched some DIY youtube videos on how to build a coop. From my research, I've learned that there are 53 different chicken breeds! I've narrowed down my search to 4 di...

Who Am I? Really...

Happy Hump Day! This week feels longer than the last. Could be because school lets out in 6 days, which means my workload lightens and I can already feel myself wanting to take a much-needed vacation.  After looking through the different reading options this week, the journal article that stood out most to me was, "Constructing academic alter-egos: identity issues in a blog-based community". The keyword is alter-egos . As I read through the article I kept thinking about Monday's Instagram challenge. I don't just post all the time on my Instagram feed. Only "curated" photos go there. If I want to share a photo or video that doesn't fit my "standard" of what goes on my feed, I just share it to my stories. I hate how I'm explaining what goes where and why, like if I have a mass following and must keep to my brand. Dennen shared a piece from Bruner, that I felt encompassed what I was feeling. "As bloggers weave the narratives of their live...

Reddit...

Instead of missing an episode of walking dead... I lost track of time and a whole hour passed... I still haven't actually accomplished anything on Reddit 😅 I thought I'd give Reddit a shot, I never understood it before. As soon as I opened the class page, I became instantly overwhelmed. My first step before getting trying to accomplish the Reddit class challenge was to create my account. Ohh I thought it would be quick... Boy! Was I wrong because Reddit has you make an avatar and I obviously had to personalize mine. What do you think of my Avatar? I wanted it to hold a plant, but you need to have a paid account for that 😒 Anyways... Reddit has a lot going on. It's like Tumblr, but fast-paced? There is just a lot going on. I'm excited to explore it and hopefully find some groups I like and share those for the challenge.

Reflection - Week 2 - 5/22/2022

Reflection - Week 2 This week felt endless... I'm not finding this class difficult, but adding in new ways I use social media feels like a lot. Not only am I managing my personal social media accounts, and my work's social media accounts, but now I have to also scan and interact with other accounts for class. I'm like woah! Lots to keep up with. It has been an interesting feeling this week trying to stay up to date with it all.  I did enjoy learning about digital natives and immigrants. As I read through my classmate's blogs and discussion posts on the topics. I found myself identifying with a digital native, but also thinking, that I'm not fluent in the digital age. I still have to constantly be growing and learning as new things come up. Such as TikTok. Why is editing a TikTok video so difficult?? I love to take part in some of the Tiktok challenges, but I can never edit my videos well enough. I still try and I can only get better through practice.  Signing off f...

Ohh Honey I'm Home...

Part 2: Networked: Networked Families Since family is such a large part of my life currently with two little ones and a husband at home. I thought let's pick the Networked Families chapter and see how I could relate to it. Let's just say reading the statistics on women having children and then women working just bugged me. Women went from being homemakers with more than one child to entering the workforce with two or fewer children while still taking on the same responsibilities as homemakers. How is that fair? Just add onto our plates, please...                                                 This meme might be a tad aggressive, but I thought it was humorous.  While this chapter of the book just made me feel like I have a majority of the responsibilities at home, I do have to agree that the internet has taken away the family social catch-up at dinner. ...

What Type of Blogger Am I?

Image
I enjoyed reading the type of blogger post! Reading it I first thought. "Oh I am soooo the transactional blogger." I'm trying to check the boxes off my list and figure out when and what I'll post for the week before the week is up. I'm just trying to get through the week and move on. But! As I read through the others I tried to see myself in them. Maybe I'm a little bit teacher ? But I haven't done any teaching yet. I feel like I am in the reflective stage right now. I'm just writing these blogs for myself. Using them to figure out what the heck I am doing. And yes, I don't actually want anyone to read my blog posts. If I see ever see you in public, I will hide. In case you are reading... What kind of blogger are you?

Reflection - Week 1 - 5/15/2022

Reflection:  This week was a nice ease into courses again after my two semester hiatus after giving birth to my now five month old, Waylon. (yes named after Waylon Jennings... my husband's idea). The fluidity of this course is making my Type A personality unsure of how to best conquer the course. I did a little bit of everything in hopes that I am doing what I need to do to earn an A. Which I know a letter grade doesn't matter, but it does. This course is going to test me.  I enjoyed reading Networked. I liked this sentence. "They are conversing with others-be they emailers, bloggers, facebookers, wikipedians, or even organizational web posters we posters." (Rainie and Wellman, 2012). It made me think of all the different type of web users out there. I'm a facebooker, tiktoker, instagramer, pintrestor. While my husband is a wikipedian. We both interact with the internet is such different ways.  Another thought I had while reading Networked was when they mentioned...

How Do you Spell the Sound of Dail-Up?

Image
It's 2000, I'm sitting in my parent's walk-in closet in our tiny apartment, where we kept the computer. I start up the computer and hear, Pshhhkkkkkkrrrrkakingkakingkakingtshchchchchchchchcch*ding*ding*ding* (I've included a youtube video if you need a reminder on what dial-up sounds like). The internet was just emerging! I felt like the luckiest person to have internet in my house. I don't remember doing much with it, but I do remember that sound and the simple appearance. Just to think that it was Web 1.0 that I was experiencing. Now I get to experience Web 2.0 and even Web 3.0! As much as it is great to experience Web 3.0, I would like Facebook to stop promoting items I don't need... But wait maybe that's Web 4.0? Before I give myself a headache, maybe I'll just stick to trying to understand Web 2.0 before I get into the others.

We never had a shotgun shot in the dark...

Hello everyone!  This is very intimidating for me. Writing isn't my jam and what I think sounds good in my head never comes across well on paper. Blogging is going to be a challenge for me, but I'll welcome the challenge with an open mind. I think the last time I blogged was in high school.   I remember in high school I was a huge fan of Tumblr. I would sit at the computer for hours cultivating the perfect Tumblr homepage. Who knew I could figure out how to use HTML. With the help of the internet and trying to be "cool". I was able to learn some tricks to customize my page. I'd share gifs and re-post stories I felt were relevant to me. I don't think I ever was the one to write anything about myself. I wasn't confident in my writing and felt it was too personal.  I'm going to give it my best shot!  I'll leave you with a song lyric from TSwift. " We never had a shotgun shot in the dark ".  "Taking a shot in the dark" means to take...
