EME 6414 - Web 2.0

One week left! I can't wait for the end.  Ok... maybe it's not finally over, but this time we are close. Next week I plan to use my blogging token and so this will be my last blog (wooh!). While blogging sometimes was very therapeutic, it was also just something else to add to my endless list of tasks. From what I have seen in this course, there are some natural bloggers out there! I hope they keep going 😊 As for me, I'm done.  Tonight I'll start my PLN and I think I'm going to write about an area of personal interest. Just because this course has taught me how much I love talking about being a new parent specifically breastfeeding, baby-lead weaning, and child development. There have been quite a few moments in this course that I've touched on those topics. This PLN has been growing with me as I enter new chapters in the life of parenthood.  Here we go! Let's start at 11pm at night and see how far we can get. 

     Sometimes I forget that some parts of the world do not have internet access. The first thought that comes to mind is how much I use google to help me when I think something isn't right with my kids. I couldn't imagine not having the internet.       The past few weeks have been one thing after another! I think *fingers crossed* we are on the mend. Last week my daughter got Hand, Foot, and Mouth. Since she has a bunch of bites from being attached my what felt like a billion mosquitoes. I didn't realize she had HFM until I saw some white dots on her tongue. I took to google to figure out what it could possibly be. After a google search and a message to my doctor's office, we got the confirmation that she did in fact of HFM. I just used the internet to help me figure out what was wrong with my daughter and how I could help her feel more comfortable. The internet searches didn't stop there, what could she eat? For my assignment, I decided to create a lesson on Nearpod to use with my students! Nearpod is something I've been using a lot for my internship, so I thought what better way than to keep it going for this class.  I created a lesson on professionalism. In order to incorporate different Web 2.0 tools. I have the students using Canva to create a brochure which they must then share on the class Padlet. This all sounded great until I realized I needed to make some examples to complete the execution. I created three brochures as my student examples.  Reflection: 7/17/2022 Tonight I want to take things a little slow. I am exhausted... yet again! I am tired of my kids having a cold after a cold.  Let's see this week was an off one, I wasn't sure what to do with the class this week. I thought ok, let's find some things! I went over to Badgelist to see what there was I could do. I decided to take on the Goodreads challenge.  It was interesting to see what reads were shared and it also had me thinking, that I should pick up a book. Maybe a little reading before bed would be good for the soul.  Has anyone seen "Where the Crawdads Sing?" The trailer looked too good! I love Reese Witherspoon who is one of the Directors of the film.  Also, we can't forget TSwift sings one of the songs in the film.  I thought I should read the book first, before watching the film.  Has anyone read or seen the film? 

I was very excited to hear Apple's ISO 16 Beta public was released. It is currently being downloaded to my phone as I type this. I love being able to test out the software when it comes out. You get to see everything and figure out how to use it before everyone else gets the update. There are some pretty cool features I'm excited to try out!  Here are a few features I'm excited about: 1. Being able to edit a text message after it has been sent. Days of hillo. I meant *hello are gone.  2. Customizable lock screen. No more creating shortcuts and wigdets for me to make my iPhone ascetically pleasing. It will be built in!  3. Multiple stops in Map. Side note why is this now I thing? But I'm excited about it! Now I can find the quickest route without trying to figure it out for myself 4. Notes. I love the notes app and they said there will be improvements there. Hopefully, the notes app will be a bit more user-friendly.  5. Mail search will be updated! Which really needed...

 This week I was feeling a lull in what I should blog about. I think I'm running out of steam. If it's not one thing it's another in my household. And this mom is tired!  Soo when  tiredteacher  issues a challenge on Twitter, I thought, "yes this is what I shall do this week!". Last night I went through all the blogs and commented on each of them. Let me tell you, that was some work right there. I am not good with chit-chats. Also, it was 10:00pm and I was at a 2-year-old birthday party in the hot sun for most of the day chasing my 2-year-old. 😪 So I might have been a bit delirious by that time in the night.  I learned a lot!  1.  Saturday night... here I am writing my second blog post of the week. Everyone in my house is already sleeping soundly in their beds.  A week's break from blogging was amazing! I learned a few things from my social media break.  1. I could never handle being an influencer.  2. I cannot wait for grad school to be over (I enjoy my free nights after a long day of working and caring for kids to just do what I wanna do) 3. Wow what a week! I have no idea how influencers or anyone who uses social media on the daily to create curated content does it. I just had to post once a day and was struggling. Between working full time, single parenting it this week while my husband was away for a fishing trip, to both my kiddos getting sick… I just yeah… I have no idea how people do it. Let’s just say I won’t be quitting my day job anytime soon to take to social media.  I also realized how curated content works. Just after my first post on Instagram two people thought I was getting hacked 😅 I added a disclaimer on my second post.  I've been struggling with the term Networked Knowlege . Thanks to my classmate's blog posts. I've been able to grasp the concept now. This means let's blog about a group.  One of my favorite social network group that helped me with the beginning stages of motherhood was the Taking Cara Babies Support Group on Facebook. My first born, Margot struggled with sleep. The first three months were rough. I think I had the worst mixture of things happening all at once. I was in the midst of the pandemic and was a new mother. I had no idea what I was doing. I remember nights, when we would just sleep with the lights on, or my husband, would sleep with Margot on the mamaroo full blast. She has to be in constant motion in order for her to sleep.  I came across Taking Cara Babies and it's like there was light at the end of the tunnel. For the past few weeks, I have been working on my internship project. Dr. Dennen's manuscript on  Instructional Design and Development for Social Media Lessons came in at a perfect time!  This past week we were asked to share out skills that we have been implementing. I'm trying hard to not just throw lessons together but to use the ADDIE method as my guide those the design and implementation process. I also am using Nearpod, which helps educators make any lesson interactive whether in the classroom or virtual. Teachers can create interactive presentations that can contain Quiz's, Polls, Videos, Collaborate Boards, and more.  As I was reading the manuscript I came across Dennen and Hoa's adaptation of MCOPE Framework for mobile learning. Reflection 6/19/2022 This week I worked on my knowledge-sharing/tracking. It took me a bit to figure out what I wanted to share and where. I figured why not use one of my favorite apps, which is Pinterest. I use Pinterest to look up lessons to share with my students and why not use it to share my lessons! I created a whole mentoring infrastructure for my program on Nearpod. I changed my Pinterest account to a business account and started to upload my lessons. This is where it got tricky! I couldn't share all the slides on a pin. What I figured out was adding the main photo title and using a link from Nearpod that I could share on the pin which allowed users to get over to the Nearpod.  Then it was the waiting game! I saw classmates liking the tweet I shared about my Pinterest board. I had a few classmates also tell me they were excited to check it out.  Social media in the classroom sounds great in theory, but I'm not sure if it's great. Personally, I haven't had success with it. This week I read, "Towards an understanding of social media use in the classroom: a literature review" by Antonie Van Den Beemt, Marieke Thurlings, and Myrthe Willems. The first line resonated with me. "Many teachers appear to struggle with the tension between possible pedagogical use and the tempting distraction of this technology."(Van Den Beemt et al., 2019) I struggle with the use because I see firsthand students being distracted by technology. Ever since COVID-19 students now use laptops in a class all the time. I'll walk around and see students off task. It's so hard when you have the internet at your fingertips.  I think it has to do with the student's maturity level. For example, in this class, we are using social media in all sorts of ways.  I was checking out the tools for this week. Future Me really stood out. I find it hard to read what my past self has written. I always cringe at my Facebook memories when they pop up. I just think... "Wow why did I write that? 😬" Even though I don't like looking back at my Facebook memories, I thought I'd give the Future Me letter writing a chance and do some reflection. My firstborn is turning TWO this weekend! All I can think about is planning her birthday party. I figured this would be a good time to reflect on how the past two years have felt having Margot in my life. I'm sure it will be sweet when I receive the letter when she turns 3.  I think I'll use this as a writing activity for my seniors next school year. I think it would be fun for them to receive a letter from their past self, especially because you can set the letter to the date of your choosing and 5 years would bring them right before they apply to medical school.  Reflection: What did I learn this week? Never leave your laptop when you go on vacation. Not everything can be done from your phone! I wanted to make sure I kept up with actively participating in blogs. For some reason my phone will not allow me to log in to my google to post on blogger accounts. Which left me having to go through everyone’s blogs to find who wasn’t using blogger 🤦🏻‍♀️ Talk about a pain in the butt!  As for more relevant things I’ve learned this week. I need to be better at giving credit where credit is due. So much is out on the internet, but that doesn’t mean you can just take what you want. I’d hate for someone to take my images if I worked hard at creating them. 

I decided to take on the Pinterest vision board challenge! It was kinda hard to figure out which picture represented which topic, but I was able to figure it out. A few weeks ago when I went on my Reddit journey. I was very interested in creating a stock tank pool for my family to enjoy. I joined a Reddit group called Stock Tank Pools.  https://www.reddit.com/r/Stocktankpools/ I’ve learned so much! And seeing others with their pool made me want one even more! From the group I found an excellent DIY page with steps on how to complete the project. Reading, User Data on the Social Web: Authorship, Agency, and Appropriation made me feel weird... I know everything we do is somehow tracked and that's how when I thought about rollerblading and googled it once. All of a sudden I'm getting ads for rollerblading. "By 2020 The Web could be completely controlled by corporations with what user generate content there is being packaged by commercial sites and closely watched by government agent" (Reyman, 2013). Here we are in 2022 and I feel like I'm being watched... I will say it's very helpful when I'm trying to look up items on Amazon and then Amazon is able to give some pretty good recommendations. I don't like how you can google something and all of a sudden it just keeps appearing. I remember when I was newly pregnant.  Reflection: I keep saying this every week. Dang this week few by! I feel like I've lost track of time. I'm been so invested in making sure that I'm checking everything out. I have been having fun with it... but now I have realized that we have an assignment coming up! 😬 I'll make this short and sweet. You can't do it all and that's ok. But it sure is hard to get focused on what you really need to be doing when all the other stuff is much more fun.  Here I am getting the outline for my community paper finished up so I can crank out some writing this week. This week I attended a professional development workshop on The 4 Disciplines of Execution. While I sat in this workshop I immediately thought about this course. Before I get started on why EME6414 came to mind, let me give you a quick overview of what The 4 Disciplines of Execution are.  Overview: It's basically promised that if you can adopt the 4 disciplines then you can produce breakthrough results! Discipline 1: Focus on the Wildly Important Goal (WIG) Discipline 2: Act on Lead Measures Discipline 3: Keep a Compelling Scoreboard (this is where it's going to all make sense). Discipline 4: Create a cadence of accountability In the workshop, they talked about the whirlwind. In the whirlwind, there is a lot of stuff going on, but not everything is important.
